Brook Park Ohio History

The South Chagrin Reservation and Purpose Trail offers scenic views of Brook Park, Ohio, and its history. Most of this route follows an abandoned rail corridor between Baltimore and Ohio through a largely rural landscape, some heavily forested and along which lie a few small towns.

Gully Brook was a frequent place and locals got to know the scenic views of Lake Erie, Lake Park and Lakeview Park. The National Air Races began in Brook Park in the early 20th century and attracted crowds who paid to park on Brook Park Farm.

It was no different in my own neighbourhood back then and I played in Riverside Park. I also played with my brother and his friends in Puritas Springs Park, which was gunned down and burned down by US Army engineers during World War II and the Korean War.

In 1815, a treaty was signed that left the rest of the country to the US government, and pioneer families were flooded to Ohio and settled relatively safely in places like Middleburg Heights. This project will be revived at Jackson Parkway, Smith Street, Brook Avenue and East Main Street. Jackson Street will also reopen to the east and west, as will the Brook Street Bridge over the Ohio River.

The North Coast Inland Trail stretches from Indiana to Pennsylvania and connects roads and paths with the Ohio River and Lake Erie and the Great Lakes. The Ohio - Erie Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in the USA and the second longest hiking network in America.
